Blog Post: Finding Purpose Through Grief – How Losing a Loved One Led Me Closer to God

Image
April 19th will forever be etched in my heart —a date that marks the day we laid my beloved cousin to rest. Though we were cousins by blood, we were siblings in spirit. We grew up side by side, navigating childhood, laughing through awkward teenage years, and cheering each other on in adulthood. Losing him has created a void that words can barely express. He passed away from stage 4 renal failure, and the grief hit me hard. I cried—loudly, openly, and without shame. That release became part of my healing. As a single mother, I knew I had to let the pain out so I could continue caring for my son. Bottling it up would have consumed me. So, I gave it over to God. 💭 What Grief Teaches Us as We Grow Older As I reflect, I’ve come to accept some painful truths about life: We grow older, and if we’re blessed, we see old age. Our bodies change—we must take better care of them. We can’t do everything we used to. And perhaps the hardest truth: we will...

🌸 Embracing the Joy of Easter: A Celebration of Hope and Renewal

Image
Easter is more than just a date on the calendar; it's a profound celebration of hope, renewal, and the enduring promise of new beginnings. Whether you're deeply rooted in Christian faith or simply drawn to the season's message of transformation, Easter invites us all to reflect, rejoice, and renew our spirits.   The story begins with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ , the agony of dying on the cross and being laid in a rich man’s tomb. Many thought it was the end, even his disciples, who had run away and scattered and were hiding for fear of persecution. Peter, who was Jesus’s mouthpiece, who had been so vocal throughout and who Jesus had predicted would deny him, wasn’t even at the site where Jesus was crucified. This doesn’t mean he didn’t love Jesus. I am sure he was perhaps beating himself up as many of us do every day, for various reasons. But what I love about this, even though awful, was that on this very day when Jesus died on that cross, he was thinking o...

🎉 From Overwhelmed to Overjoyed: My Son Turns 3!

Image
Three years ago , I couldn’t even imagine this moment. In 2022, when I first became a mother, the idea of celebrating a 3rd birthday seemed so far away. I was overwhelmed, exhausted, and honestly unsure of how I’d survive the day-to-day reality of parenting—let alone plan birthday parties and sing songs with a toddler one day. Everything felt so new and intense. My mind was spinning with questions: What will I do? How will I do it? How do I go back to work and raise a child at the same time? The unknowns were loud and heavy. I already knew I’d be raising my child as a single parent, and while I’m so grateful I had my mum around to support me, the pressure still felt enormous. But fast forward to now— April 15th, 2025 —and here we are. My son is officially 3 years old , and I honestly couldn't be prouder of him… and of myself. This year, he fully understood what a birthday meant. 🎂 He was SO excited! He knew it meant getting a gift, having cake, dressing up, si...

Embracing the Journey: Weekend Fun, Friendship, and Finding Joy as a Single Mom

Image
This past weekend, my son and I were invited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. It was a lovely change of pace and something I hadn’t realised I needed until I was in it—laughter, conversation, community. The location wasn’t exactly around the corner, so it meant driving a bit of a distance. And let me tell you, just the idea of that used to terrify me. For a long time, I avoided motorways like the plague. I’d tell myself, “Nope, not doing that. Too overwhelming, too risky.” But as a single parent, sometimes you don’t have the luxury of depending on someone else. If something needs to be done, you do it. And that’s exactly what I did—I put on some worship music, packed snacks, strapped my precious cargo (my son) safely in the back, and hit the road. To my surprise, the drive was smooth. Peaceful, even. Isn’t it funny how often the things we fear the most turn out to be the least problematic? I was proud of myself—not just for making the journey, but for pushing past my fear and sh...

An Epiphany: How I’m Reclaiming My Life as a Single Mom with a 5-Year Vision Plan

Image
By Stacy Kelly | Resilient Mompreneur   I Needed an Epiphany I had a conversation — not with anyone else, but with myself. it was a realisation that hit me: I was short-changing my potential; it had me in tears and I was glad for the wake-up call. I’d been slipping into the trap of nonchalance, overwhelm, and quiet complaint again. But deep down, I knew the truth — I was fighting against the resistance my mindset had built up for so many years. So, I decided to go to war with it. Why did I go to war? For many years I struggled with procrastination and self-belief. If something felt right and I was making progress my mind suddenly switched off and I was left feeling doubtful. Well, I am tired of it. How many times should I prove to myself that I have what it takes? If I can study and pass exams, acquire certifications, learn to drive a car and confidently drive on the road then I can build a business successfully, believe in myself and become the best version of myself. I ...

Day 7 - Mindset and Financial Growth - Breaking the Cycle

Image
💬 “Change your mindset, change your money story.” Money isn’t just about numbers—it’s about mindset. If you’ve ever said, “I’m just not good with money,” or “People like me never get ahead,” I want you to pause and challenge that. As a single mom, I had to unlearn so many limiting beliefs about money. I thought that I would struggle for a long time because I hadn’t worked for a while and bills were piling up—but now I know better. I had to remind myself that growth starts in the mind.   🧠 What Is a Growth Mindset Around Money? It’s the belief that you can learn better money habits, grow your income, and build the life you desire—even if you’re starting small. This doesn’t mean pretending everything is perfect. It means acknowledging where you are and deciding to move forward with intention.   🌍 Break the Generational Cycle Many of us weren’t taught how to budget, save, or invest. But you can change that for yourself — and for your children. Star...

Day 6: Saving & Emergency Funds – Building Stability Over Time

Image
💬 “It’s not about how much you save, but about building the habit.” For me, as a single mom saving money at times feels impossible. After paying for rent, bills, and food, there’s often nothing left. I understand – I’ve been there too, I am there right now! But here’s the truth I’ve learned: even the smallest savings add up over time. 🌱 Why Saving Matters An emergency fund is like your financial safety net. It doesn’t need to be thousands of pounds to make a difference. Even £100 tucked away can be the difference between peace and panic when the unexpected happens. Savings also give you options — and options equal freedom.   💡 Three Simple Ways to Start Saving on a Low Income 1. Round-Up Apps Use apps like Monzo or Starling that round up your spending to the nearest £ and save the change. You’d be surprised how quickly it grows. With Monzo, it chucks your pennies into an investment folder and helps to grow your cash. 2. Sinking Funds These are small, plann...

Day 5: Earning More – Side Hustles & Extra Income for Single Moms

Image
💭 "Every day is a lesson, and every setback is a setup for a comeback." As a single mom, life doesn’t often leave much room for extras—extra energy, extra time, or extra income. But that doesn’t mean we can’t create space for opportunities. There are women out there absolutely thriving, running successful businesses and earning six figures. And while I celebrate them, I’m not quite there— yet. I’m just getting started. When I became a mom, I had to press pause on a lot. I was studying, raising my son alone, and trying to stay motivated through exhaustion. Like many others, I tried things that promised income but only made my situation worse. That taught me a valuable lesson—if it doesn't align with your values, it’s not worth your peace. That’s why I started this blog: to connect with other moms like me and eventually build an income stream I can feel proud of. I won’t pretend it’s easy. It takes planning , patience , and persistence . I wake up before my son...

Blog Post: Debt Management – Seeking Help Without Shame

Image
💡 "Acknowledging you need help is the first step toward financial freedom." Yesterday, I mentioned that I signed up with StepChange , a debt charity in the UK. At first, I felt ashamed. I worried that asking for help would define me, that it meant I had somehow failed. I even started the application, deleted it, and then came back to it—only to leave it 95% complete. Then, StepChange sent me an email. That email changed everything. They introduced me to something called Breathing Space , a government-backed scheme that gives you 60 days of protection from creditors —no interest, no harassment, just time to breathe and get a plan in place. They worked with me to create a realistic repayment plan based on my budget and income. Now, I pay them, and they handle my creditors on my behalf. The best part? I no longer lose sleep over my finances. The Truth About Debt and Shame For a long time, I was in denial about my financial situation. Pride kept me from seeking h...

Budgeting on a Low Income – Making Every Penny Count

Image
💰 "A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went." In the UK—and I’m sure around the world—many of us are feeling the pinch when it comes to managing finances. It often feels like the essentials, especially healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, are the most expensive. As a single mother, I’ve had to be intentional about budgeting to make every penny count. I’m not perfect at it, but I’ve learned some strategies that help me stay on track. Here’s how I manage my finances each month: Step 1: Plan Before You Shop 🛒 Every week, I take stock of what I already have in my cupboards before heading to the shop. I write a list and try my best to stick to it. I give myself a strict budget, and while I sometimes go over, it’s usually for items that will last me weeks or even months. Step 2: Shop Smart, Not Expensive 🏷️ I rotate between supermarkets based on affordability. My go-to stores are Lidl, Aldi, and Sainsbury’s (since I can u...

Day 1: Facing Financial Reality – Understanding Where You Stand

Image
You can't fix what you don't acknowledge. Before I became a mother, I had no idea just how much life would change. If I’m honest, I was probably in denial. I spent without thinking—buying expensive nappies , stocking up on too much food , and letting too many subscriptions quietly drain my account. Then reality hit. As a single mother , I realised it was all on me. Every bill, every expense, every financial decision. Managing money wasn’t just about getting by anymore; it was about taking control . But before you can improve your financial situation, you have to face your financial reality —even when it feels uncomfortable. I know from experience how easy it is to avoid checking your bank account out of fear. I’ve been there— wondering if there’s enough to cover the bills , stretching every penny until payday. But avoiding it only makes ...
